Daily cleaning of lenses is one of the most important aspects of wearing and caring for lenses. It is important to clean them well in order to avoid discomfort and prevent infections in the eyes. Clarity of vision is a direct product of good care and cleaning of lenses. There are now great variety of solutions available which can be used to clean your lenses. Some of them are listed and explained below : Multipurpose cleaning solutions - These as is evident by their name do everything - they rinse, disinfect, clean and store the lenses. They are the most popular solutions being used nowadays Saline solutions - These do not assist in disinfecting the eyes, but can be used to rinse the lens and to prepare them for insertion into the eyes. Daily cleansing solutions - These have been popular for a long time until replaced by the multipurpose solutions. These are convenient and should be used with care since most of them require a little rubbing with the fingertips. Hydrogen peroxide solution - again one of the systems that must be used with care. If the lenses are left too long in this solution then the lenses can be harmed and they can be painful when worn. People with very sensitive eyes use this system, since the other solutions have chemicals which can cause irritation Weekly Cleansers : These come in the form of tablets and are used to get rid of the protein deposits on the lenses. Using them just once a week is often sufficient. There have been new cases where certain types of cleansing solutions - or a particular brand have caused problems for some eyes. This has led to major discussion on whether the older hydrogen peroxide solutions - specially the two step ones are a better solution. They are more cumbersome to use and most users tend to go for the convenience of using one step multipurpose solutions. But most manufacturers recommend that you talk to your eye care professional before you choose your cleaning solution - since it is dependant on your eyes and on the type of lens that you use. A few basic rules should be followed - such as do not top-off or reuse old solutions, do not wear your lenses while swimming or bathing, and do not use dirty fingers while cleaning them. Some basic care will go a long way in keeping your lenses clean.
