Anywhere in the world the purchase of lenses is normally governed by the laws of the country. As is evident the basic laws are the same the world over - a valid prescription, qualified retailers and all safeguards being followed.
In Canada there are a few more licensing rules that have become important and have to be observed. Health Canada has also issued warnings on the purchase of cosmetic non-prescriptive lenses. They have taken congnizance of the fact that prescriptive lenses are controlled by rules and regulations regarding their manufacture and are fitted by professionals
However cosmetic lenses are normally bought off-the-shelf and online. They may cause some interference with the flow of oxygen to the eye. Since they have not been fitted by a specialist they may fit incorrectly and allow dust and debris to collect under them, thereby harming the eyes. They have recommended that at the first sign of any discomfort, they should be discontinued and you should get your eyes checked by a qualified doctor.
